Description

When you mention the word Peperomia, most people immediately think of that most commonly grown houseplant with the puckered leaves. Truth be known, the family Peperomias are so diverse that most species would never be recognized as relatives of the more familiar ones if you hadn't seen its flower spike. This species is a great example. Several years ago we collected this plant in Costa Rica where it grows as a vining epiphyte on the trunks of trees. Like little umbrellas, the 1" round leaves are held up by cherry red stems. Does best growing on a mossy substrate that remains moist but well drained. Shipped and sold as a single un-rooted cutting in a sealed deli cup with sphagnum and roots easily. Must be kept in a humid habitat but can be slowly acclimated to non-terrarium conditions with time.
