Goodyera malipoensis — Malipo Jewel Orchid
Refined, rare, and quietly mesmerizing, Goodyera malipoensis is a jewel orchid prized for its intricate foliage and elegant presence. Its elongated, velvety leaves are a deep forest green, delicately overlaid with fine silver to pale green veining that forms a subtle, net-like pattern. The overall effect is understated yet sophisticated—like a piece of living textile woven with metallic threads.
Native to the shaded forest floors of southern China, this species thrives in stable, humid environments where it can slowly form a graceful, creeping colony. Its low-growing habit makes it especially well-suited for terrariums, shaded plant cabinets, or intimate display settings where its delicate details can be fully appreciated.
Though it may produce slender spikes of small, pale flowers, Goodyera malipoensis is grown primarily for its foliage—calm, elegant, and deeply collectible.
Care Notes:
Light: Low to medium, indirect light
Water: Keep evenly moist but not soggy
Humidity: High humidity preferred (60–80%+)
Growth Habit: Terrestrial, slowly creeping
A subtle treasure for the discerning grower, Goodyera malipoensis offers a quieter kind of beauty—one that reveals itself more with every glance.
Jewel Orchids are so named because of the stunning patterns and coloration of their dramatic foliage. Truly miniature in size, they are ideal candidates for even the smallest terrariums. Although they can be difficult to grow in exposed conditions, their culture is greatly simplified when enclosed in glass. They enjoy warm temperatures and a humid atmosphere without frequent misting. They like consistent moisture but do want good drainage and aeration around the roots.
Size: The jewel orchids we offer here are single growth, young and small, potted in a 2" pot and have been hardened off after being propagated through tissue culture. Please do not expect to receive show quality plants. Growing them out to maturity is up to you and may prove to be challenging for many growers. We only offer these as rare or very uncommonly available which is indicative of their price and value. Remember, most of these jewels require the added humidity of a terrarium environment to thrive and may not acclimate to conditions outside of a terrarium without time and tender loving care.
