Aspidogyne argentea — Silver Vein Jewel Orchid
A true connoisseur’s jewel, Aspidogyne argentea is grown not for its flowers, but for its breathtaking foliage. Each velvety leaf is deep olive to chocolate-green, intricately traced with shimmering silver veining that seems almost hand-painted. The effect is luminous and refined—like living filigree—making this species a standout in any terrarium or curated plant collection.
Native to the humid understories of tropical forests, this jewel orchid thrives in warm, consistently moist environments with filtered light. Its compact, low-growing habit makes it ideal for enclosed displays, vivariums, or as a statement piece in a shaded plant cabinet. Given the right conditions, it will slowly spread into an elegant, glistening colony.
While it may produce delicate flower spikes, the real magic lies in the foliage—subtle, sophisticated, and endlessly captivating.
Care Notes:
Light: Low to medium, indirect light
Water: Keep evenly moist; never allow to dry out completely
Humidity: High humidity preferred (60–80%+)
Growth Habit: Terrestrial, creeping
A must-have for collectors of jewel orchids and lovers of fine foliage—Aspidogyne argentea brings quiet luxury to any plant display.
Jewel Orchids are so named because of the stunning patterns and coloration of their dramatic foliage. Truly miniature in size, they are ideal candidates for even the smallest terrariums. Although they can be difficult to grow in exposed conditions, their culture is greatly simplified when enclosed in glass. They enjoy warm temperatures and a humid atmosphere without frequent misting. They like consistent moisture but do want good drainage and aeration around the roots.
Size: The jewel orchids we offer here are single growth, young and small, potted in a 2" pot and have been hardened off after being propagated through tissue culture. Please do not expect to receive show quality plants. Growing them out to maturity is up to you and may prove to be challenging for many growers. We only offer these as rare or very uncommonly available which is indicative of their price and value. Remember, most of these jewels require the added humidity of a terrarium environment to thrive and may not acclimate to conditions outside of a terrarium without time and tender loving care.
