Frogging Tour? While our tours are somewhat focused on seeing exotic frogs of the rainforest, nature lovers will agree that our tours will satisfy a wide spectrum of interests within the realm of exotic flora and fauna. Plan to see Toucans, Parrots, Sloths, Monkeys, Reptiles & Amphibians, Hummingbirds, Tanagers, Countless Insects and so much more- and if we’re lucky- Sea Turtles!

Day 1: Travel Day. Plan your trip to arrive on this day, (April 28th) preferably during daylight hours. If you land early enough, you may have time to add a visit to a local zoo or butterfly park.

We stay at Pura Vida Hotel, a great stopover located just minutes away from the airport. There are 6 individual 2-6 person casitas among beautifully landscaped gardens. Breakfast included.

Day 2: After an early breakfast, we depart promptly at 7am, and travel for 1.5 hours through Braulio Carrillo National Park. We then leave our comfortable van and begin our adventure on a ride for 3 hours down a bumpy, muddy road on a covered tractor cart towed by a farm tractor. We are headed for a truly remote jungle lodge called Rara Avis where we will spend 2 nights completely isolated from modern civilization.

RARA AVIS is Costa Rica's oldest and purest Rainforest Lodge. Whether you are learning to understand the rainforest hiking a variety of its trails, swimming in crystalline jungle waterfalls, or simply relaxing and watching birds from the hammock on your balcony, you will certainly experience nature like nowhere else.

Day 3: 3 meals per day are included here. Day and Night hiking available in the middle of the Rainforest! More highlights about Rara Avis.

Day 4: We depart at 2pm via the same means that we arrived and meet our van and driver at about 5pm. We stop for dinner, then a short drive to Casa Rio Blanco where we spend the night. Rooms are somewhat rustic but comfortable. Breakfast is included here.

Day 5: We have breakfast then drive to where we once again, leave our van for travel by water taxi to Tortuguero. There are no roads leading to Tortuguero, travel is only by boat or small plane. We opt for the scenic boat ride on our way to stay at Miss Junnie’s Lodge. Breakfast is included.

Day 6: We explore the Tortuguero National Park via canoe and hiking trails by day. After dinner, we seek to witness the nesting of the worlds largest turtle, the giant leatherback!

Day 7: Enjoy the morning walking the beach, relaxing by the room, or just hanging out around town. After our morning activities, we wind up our stay around noon where we depart via boat that takes us to our van in just 1.5 hours.

After lunch, we then head to the Costa Rican Amphibian Research Center, founded and operated by Brian Kubicki where we will be given an afternoon tour of the grounds and facility, have dinner, then return for an amazing guided night hike on his preserve. (somewhat strenuous) (You will be happy to know that we will be donating a portion of our proceeds to help support Brians goals with the CRARC.)

Day 8: (May 5th) Travel Day. We leave Brians place as early as necessary to get our earliest travellers to the airport. Plan your departing flight during the afternoon or later on this day. If you leave late enough, you may have time to add a visit to the local zoo or butterfly park.

The small size of the group, consisting of 6-10 guests, will allow for a much more personalized experience. The guides, each with their own area of expertise, will help to educate and enlighten you on the flora and fauna of the tropics. Although focused on the amphibian life, it is impossible to ignore the rest of the forest life. We will explore the amazing diversity of plants as well, including the multitudes of ferns, orchids, bromeliads, tropical trees and flowers. The result is a complete Natural History experience, allowing you to appreciate the ecosystem as a whole.

Prices are for Double Occupancy (possibility of up to Quad Occupancy). Price includes lodging, breakfast, ground travel, water taxi, entrance fees, tours & guide fees.
Optional or unplanned tours that may become available are not included in the price.
Prices do not include tips, air fare or meals unless indicated.
You are welcome to skip any planned and prepaid activities but there are no refunds for any prepaid activity that you do not wish to take part in.
Some overnight stays are more rustic than others but all have hot showers. (Except Osa Tent Camp)
Public transportation (prepaid) may be required in Panama due to location remoteness.

We are sorry, however we may have little or no choices for people with specialized diets.
Everyone will be expected to carry their own luggage to their rooms etc. (Pack accordingly!)
